In American culture.freedom means equality.The Declaration of Independence states that"all men are created equal."That does not mean equal in abilities or status.For Americans,equality refers to equal worth and equal opportunity. Every individual should have an equal chance to improve his life.True,America has not always lived up to that ideal.For many years,Native Americans,African Americans and immigrants have protested their unequal treatment. But American culture still teaches that people can work hard and fulfill their dreams.Whether this idea is true or not,people hear rags-to-riches stories often enough to confirm it in the minds of many people.

Freedom arouses strong feelings for Americans.The idea of liberty binds people together in this"land of the free." However,problems still exist.One individual's freedom can conflict with the rights of others. Someone once said,"You have the freedom to swing your fist around if you want.But your freedom ends where my nose begins."People can also become too concerned about their own rights.They might demand special treatment.However,the path to freedom is not completely smooth.Even so,for Americans,no other road is really worth traveling.

To be fair, their plans for the future of this country are certainly interesting. They say they are going to build more day nurseries for mothers who go out to work, they say they are going to build more schools and increase the grants of university and college students. Then they say they are going to reduce unemployment; improve the National Health Service; cut the cost of dental treatment. And they say they intend to reduce the level of personal taxation. In the same breath they say they are going to cut inflation and thereby reduce the cost of living and help family budgets. Oh, yes, I nearly forgot. They are going to spend millions of pounds on a nuclear defense system to protect us from an enemy attack.

But the question I want to ask is: where are they going to get all the money to put their ideas into practice？ Well, I think 1 know the answer. The money is going to come out of the taxpayers' pocket. That's fight. It's you and me who are going to pay the bill.

Sir, may I suggest the present state of the national economy means these plans are not only unrealistic, they're irresponsible and completely unbelievable.

This ratio can best be understood by thinking of it as a rectangle. In a golden rectangle, the long side is 1.618 times longer than the short side. Therefore, the value of the golden ratio is equal to 1.618. The proportions of the golden rectangle are thought to reflect perfect symmetry. If we frame. a gorgeous face inside of a golden rectangle, the dimensions of each will correspond perfectly. The face is beautiful because it is symmetrical.

Amazingly, the golden ratio is found in many manifestations of beauty—not just in beautiful faces. The dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt conform. to the golden ratio. And the famous Greek Parthenon contains many golden rectangles. Moreover, the famous fifteenth-century Italian artist, Leonardo da Vinci, deliberately used the golden ratio in his paintings. Not surprisingly, the face of da Vinci's Mona Lisa matches the golden rectangle.
